Tom has been with AM Best since 2001 (22 years).
As the property/casualty actuary at A.M. Best, Tom’s responsibilities include analyzing company reserve deficiencies and assisting analysts with rating issues that impact BCAR such as Loss Portfolio Transfers, Adverse Development Covers, and Aggregate Stop Loss contracts. Tom also helps with changes to the U.S. and Canadian P/C capital models, the Global (composite) capital model, and U.S. Title capital model. Tom is also responsible for constructing new questions in the A.M. Best supplemental rating questionnaire (SRQ), such as those related to terrorism, natural catastrophes, non-traditional catastrophe mitigation, casualty catastrophes and cyber risk. Tom has also written or assisted on many special reports and rating criteria. Tom has done presentations for the CAS on topics related to reserving, ERM, reinsurance treatment, changes to BCAR, and changes to A.M. Best’s rating methodology.
Prior Experience:
• Variety of roles over a 12-year period at the Atlantic Mutual Companies, including reserving manager in the actuarial department.
• Variety of roles over a 3 year period at the Insurance Co. of North America, including professional liability reserving.
