Ben Newton, FCAS, MAAA, MBA, RPLU

Chief Underwriting Officer
Ryan Alternative Risk

Ben Newton is the Chief Underwriting Officer for Ryan Alternative Risk. With over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, Ben has been a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society since 2007 and a Registered Professional Liability Underwriter since 2009. Since joining Ryan Specialty in 2019, Ben has focused on operational excellence, product development, and loss ratio improvement, while providing actuarial and underwriting leadership across new and existing programs.

Prior to his tenure at Ryan Specialty, Ben held positions at Zurich, Navigators, and CNA Insurance, where he focused on diverse businesses including Direct, Independent, Captive, and Program Distributed and on lines of business spanning Crop, Financial, Marine, Standard, Surety, and Warranty.
Ben holds two (simultaneously earned) Bachelors degrees from the University of Illinois: a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He also holds an MBA with Honors and Distinction from Columbia University in New York. Ben is the author of "Multi-Year Policy Pricing"
